NEW Aldi store opens in Wolverhampton

Over 350 excited shoppers queued outside the newly opened Aldi store in Wolverhampton this morning hoping to be one of the lucky 100 to get their hands on a ‘golden ticket.’

To celebrate the opening of the store on Howard Street, golden envelopes containing a special ticket to win prizes including 40” HD Ready TVs, digital cameras, Sat Navs and much more, were handed out to the first 100 people in the queue. First in the queue Carmen Smith and Luke Webb, who was celebrating his 18th Birthday along with his win, each took home the star prizes of 40” TVs, with many others walking away with great store products.

As part of its engagement with the local community, Aldi has held a competition with local primary schools to design a poster for the new store. The winning entry came from Ghazala Sakander at Merridale Primary School, which has received a kit sponsorship deal from Aldi for their football team. Local children from the school were also invited on opening day to officially open the store.

Aldi has created an unprecedented 40 new jobs for the local community and the Wolverhampton store is one of many that the retailer is planning to open in the West Midlands this year. A new store in New Oscott is due to open on Thursday 17th April, and Aldi is still looking to hire additional staff for stores across the region.

Aldi prides itself on locally sourced produce found throughout the store, where shoppers can expect an extensive range of high quality, fresh food. Aldi’s Wolverhampton store will be served with an extensive range of 1,750 product lines at affordable prices.

Aldi Store Manager, David Powell commented: “My team and I greatly enjoyed welcoming our new customers into the store, and we were delighted with how many people turned out early this morning to be in with a chance to win our ‘golden ticket’ top prizes.

“We were very pleased to be able to offer a kit sponsorship deal to Merridale Primary School to support their football team for next year.”
